    new member with a thousand questions[my 1468]

First of all I would like to thank everyone, for the opportunity in becoming a gs resource member ,and for the team support.I have just purchased 4 carb rebuild kits for an1980 gs1000 ,all of the jets are present though Ive noticed a c-clip and a little black washer, looks like gasket material. These carbs are from a gs1000g ,the micro fische illustrates only one brass washer under main pilot jet, what could the little c-clip be for ?,and is the little black washer, for the throttle linkage on carb body?Aside of these two questions. Iam putting a dyna -jet kit stage 1&3, I plan on using an open stack and a v&h header, with adjustable cam sprockets.the, stock mains are 115 and dyna is saying use 170 from kit, they are saying stage 3 for velocity stacks and header,I would absolutely value an opinion on this, this bike is a restoration project, and I will be posting photos and probably asking many more questions,in any event thank you,for your input to my questions.
    Thank you [ my 1468]

Welcome to the forum and get ready for a nice ride once you get the old girl sorted out.

Here is all that you'll need to help in your rebuild:

More specifically, here is the carb rebuild tutorial that will give you all the detail on how to do it and what to buy:

You're probably going to hear that you shouldn't have purchased the rebuild kits since they're not going to be needed. All you needed was the complete O-ring set that you can get from here:
    cycleorings.com

As for the jet kit, I'm assuming that when you talk about a "open stack" you're talking about removing the airbox and going with pod filters. If so then you need to pick up a good set of pod air filters like original K&N's or APE. Stay clear of the real cheap units. The Dyna jet numbers don't match the Mikuni numbers so don't get confused with that. If you go pods then the Dynojet kit is a good way to go.

Looking forward to your rebuild post.

Darn, with so many daily riders it's hard to decide which one to jump on next.;)

That was a fast response ,thank you for that. What I meant by open stack is a velocity stack , no pods or box.also the stock main air jets were 180s and the rebuild kit supplied 200s don't know if I should use the old or the new,and how it might effect the dyno-jet upgrade, all carbs have been cleaned, new starter plunger o=rings ,everything is new except the floats, the air correctors from dyno kit have been installed, what do you think I should use about the main air jets the 180s or the 200s ? Again thank you for your sharing the knowledge, and your help is very appreciated. [my1468]

The DJ kit should have supplied all the jets needed. Follow the instructions on the kit. Can you post the part number of the DJ kit you have?

As for Velocity stacks, with no air filters you'll not be seeing that engine running for long once you do get it tuned up.

Time to post pics of the bike as well. Nobody gets to do much around here without posting some pictures.

I don't know your skill level, but I would chip in to recommend taking LOTS of photos as things come apart. There are cable and tube routings that will not be obvious when you are putting things back together.

I heard you guys were a good bunch of people on this website,I want to say thank you,to all who have contributed input to my concerns, I was juggling the idea of pods or stacks around in my mind, pods makes more sense in this particular application,so pods it is.Again your help is very much appreciated and I say thank You,again. Will post pics as soon as I do the cam sprockets,by then frame, should be media blasted and ready to paint.

I would be so for humble if I could retrieve this information from some of the big brains, from this club,I am working on a gs1000e restoration at this time, have two 750s that are screaming fix me.Doing all the homework first, again Iam at the behest of your kindness, and knowledge, your help is honestly appreciated,p.s.looking for a $300.00 frame&title or rolling chassis, must be clean and straight 78-80 gs1000 chain drive,e-s-et, ill post some pictures as soon as Iam able.
