    Petcock sealing washers.

    I've been looking for the 1/4 inch sealing washers recommended here with no successThey're $1.20 in the US which means probably $3 or 4 in CanadaShipping costs would eat up any savings ordering from the US.Any suggestions?PN is GASKET09168-06023 FYI.

    What about regular 6 MM Dowty washers????

      What bike??? Maybe you order and have them shipped to me and I mail them to you...cant see mail being more than a dollar or so.

        I'd like to find something I could find here,those Dowty washers might be the ticket.Same seal for both the 750 and the 1000 as I'm using the good 83 750 petcock I have here as my 1000 tap has a busted diaphragm.No money in the PayPal to order anything right now

          Found them at Ace Hardware here in the states. I ordered some from Suzuki to use when I get around to it. The sealing washers I am using temporarily have neoprene gaskets which are not supposed to be totally gasoline resistant.

            OK that's good to know.Hmmm....what to do now?Tried a home brew of RTV silicone I let sit on a washer to harden,it just peeled off when tightened.

                  In a pinch I have used a standard crush washer & thread sealant. Just be careful not to push the sealant (or RTV) up into the tank. Worked fine

                      My GS850G's petcock has been wearing black nylon washers from the hardware store for over ten years.

                      Just plain ol' 1/4 inch ID nylon washers. White nylon would work the same as black, but they had both and I figured black would look a little better.

                        I'll continue the search for Dowty washer if the trip to the local dealership turns out to be as expensive as I expect.I do like the nylon washer idea,it's not like there's a lot of gas it's got to stop.On a side note I took apart the 1000 tap and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought!Really just needs a top "O" ring the reason for a dealership trip.Off eBay it's $16 with the shipping to CanadaFigure even the rip off artists up here can beat that.

You clamp down the screw and it's a metal to metal interface so no worry about torque falloff. With a compressible washer such as those rubber pieces the clamp load will slowly release as the rubber compresses. Plastic washers such as Brian suggests do this much less, and slower. I'd use those if someone doesn't want to wait for the proper OEM washers. Kawasaki used similar plastic washers on at least some of their KZ family bikes (my KZ750E for example).
