    79 GS750L Carb screws question

    Hello,

I saw the Carb sticky thread but didn't look all the way through it. I am working on a stock 1979 GS750L and the carbs have a "fuel" and "air" screw in them. Can anyone give me the stock setting to start at with these? The bike is all stock, pipe, air cleaner and all.

    Thanks in advance!

Bottom pilots are generally at 3/4 to 7/8 out and the side mixture screw is at 1 1/2 to 2 as a starting point. The bottom ones are usually left alone and fine tuning fuel to air mixture is done with the side mixture screws.

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

Hey Chuck, I have the same bike, but with a Kerker 4-to-1 pipe. Ive got 112.5 main jets on it, and every mechanic here has been telling me to set the bottom screw at like a whopping 2+ turns out. Needless to say...bike will not start now. It was running when i got it out of the shop the other day but was getting 18 mpg and plugs were getting coated in carbon from being super rich. Had my gf's dad follow me and he said I was slinging black smoke on the throttle and stinking at idle. Can you offer any advice on what settings I should start on with those jets? I rode it probably 300 miles before I started trying to adjust the screws...now itll only start with the air screws waaay out and the air filter out of the box. Im at a loss here...dn't have the money to take it back to that shop or another shop.
