Trouble with carb #1 I think. Is it my float?

Hey guys, My bike is an 81 GS650GL. Engine setup is Dynojet STG 3, Pods, EMGO turnout slipons. What i have going on is Idle im fine between id say 0-40mph i'm fine as long as i'm on accelerating i'm fine. If i try and cruise and keep it at one speed say 50,55,60,70 i get like a choking feel like shes chugging. I could get real technical and try to describe the sound its like vroooo vu vuvu vu vu vroooom lol. Anyway she will pop and back fire a bit on the left pipe when i let off gas. The number one plug gets a bit black and once and awhile ill get some gas drip out the #1 carbs pod when i stop. But like i say if i'm cruising through town at say 30-40 no issues. So just looking for some input as to where i should start looking. I did pull float and she floats even on some gas. Thanks guys I'm sure ill get some great expert help her like always and have it sorted in no time.

Did you clean the carbs and install new O-rings? Is there rust in the tank?

No rust re did my tank last summer, as far as o-rings they were done 2 summers ago because i had a different issue from them. and yes cleaned carbs very thoroughly in hopes that was the problem. Ran some sea foam after the cleaning no difference what so ever. Also when it drips its very intermittent and only after i stop and shut it off does the drip occur and comes directly from the pod filter

Double check float height on #1 and that o-ring on float needle seat- sounds like that float bowl is overfilling. Keep your eye on crankcase oil level in case gas is reaching there.

Could be a leaking float valve. Pull the filter on the #1 carb. If you put it in prime, does the #1 carb leak gas within a short time from either the carb throat or the over flow line? If so, you'll need to either replace the float valve or make sure that a float bowl gasket isn't coming in contact with the float and hanging it up, or down in this case.

Thanks Tom any idea on the height specs for these floats? i'm sure i can find it somewhere if i need to. Float is kinda what i was thinking but wanted some other input. I had pulled it and did a float test to see if she was no longer floating and it was fine so i was like well better ask the experts lol. Also I just changed my oil and plan to do so again as soon as i get this resolved i know gas in the crack case can be a rather devastating mixture. I figured it has to be something with #1s float as only that plug gets black all the others look great and its only the pipe on that side that backfires. Thanks again hopefully tonight after work ill get this figured out. Also any other input is welcome.

Ill check that as well JT i did not consider that at all. I normally dont have to prime her so i will check that tonight as well I knwo when i started her up the first time for the spring i had it sitting on prime for awhile and it didn't leak but ill make sure. What woudl you consider a short time?

If you get gas out of the carb or vent line within 15 minutes I'd say you have a problem.
