post carb synch question / curiosity

I will preface this with 2 things:
Yes, i know a Carbtune is the tool to have. I tried purchasing one from Morgan. Upon attempting to copmlete the purchase, the sale was denied, and I found out the hard way that my credit union doesnt do overseas sales, and my account was locked out. I ended buying a Motion Pro mercury stick for cheap.

Second, I am not yet fast or proficient at this task yet.

While doing the synch, i could see fuel vapor pulsing thru the hoses. This vapor eventually condensed on top of the mercury column and by the end there was about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch of fuel sitting over the mercury. I ended up using this as the line to synch to. End result us good, as the bike runs smoother then ever.

Ive read that some here are really good at this can do a synch in less then 5 minutes....not so for me (yet). It took about 20 minutes the first time - which I goofed up, and maybe 10-15 the second time. I assume if I could do it quickly the fuel wouldn't end up on the mercury.

If it matters, the synch was done at 2000 rpm, the bike is an 1150 with k&n pods and a 4-1 exhaust.

Im extremely happy with the end result, just curious if this is a normal occurrence, as ive never heard of it.

I can't imagine why anything would collect on top of the mercury.

There is a vacuum there, all the fuel vapor is going past the ports to the gauge, not into them.

No, I would not consider this "normal" by any means. Not sure what to do to prevent it, but it has never taken that much time for me to sync a set of carbs, so it might be something that happens over time.

Don't worry about having to 'settle' for the mercury gauges, just be VERY careful with them. The only set of Motion Pro mercury gauges that I saw had a VERY flimsy lid over the mercury reservoir, not something that I would be comfortable with. I have a set of mercury gauges that I have had since 1979, but the design is considerably different than the Motion Pro model. I also have a Carbtune, a Motion Pro "blue liquid" gauge and an official Suzuki gauge, so there is no shortage of sync tools here.

Forgot to add....the little restrictors that go inside of the hoses were installed. It was odd to see. The pulsing looked like it was going both ways..sort of like watching a gauge types' needle bounce up and down.

It's perfectly normal fluid to collect in the vacuum lines. I ignore it and focus on the mercury columns.
