See my above post about putting the intakes on the head first.

Intakes are original bolt right on no problem. If I took tensioner off then carbs would bolt up perfectly

I was just looking at the cylinder head fiche and i am wondering if they are the stock intakes as well. Has been a while since i have worked on an 80 850, but I am not so sure they are offset like your seem to look in the picture. Take a look here and see what you think..not saying yours are wrong. Someone will for sure come along to verify them soon I am sure.

Buddy has a 82 850 I can look at tomorrow if you like.

I meant the rubber intake boots.........not the head itself.

i know the boots are currently on the carbs to make sure they fit properly. I just wanted to show you the head/tensioner so u can see what I'm working with. Maybe you can see something I cant

thats right. The combo of the carbs and / OR the intakes is whats the problem.

There is probably a reason why you bought the bike in pieces, those carbs are wrong, just get the proper set. Those are off a kawasaki ninja

Find out what they fit and sell them to fund the replacement set.

Put a add in the wanted parts section... and look in the parts for sale section.

Do you know what years and models these carbs were used on? Like does a gs1100 have the same carbs?
i own a 81 gs 750 and I think that has the carbs I'm looking for

Many years and CCs used the same carbs. The issues is if the head port spacing is the same as the 850' If so then the rack will bolt right up.
