    1984 GS1100GK Air Box

I have a question regarding air-boxes. PO said when he got the bike the airbox had no bracket or anything in the filter section so he wedged a couple thin pieces of wood to hold the filter in place. I'm not even sure what exactly is missing but I was wondering if its possible to buy just those missing pieces or if I need a new box completely then what years and models should I look for to get a match?

Need someone with similar setup to chime in. You probably wouldn't like price of new (or used) airbox, so maybe get a little further creative than two pieces of wood to secure filter. Be careful not to restrict airflow.

One common thing we see is that the layer of foam gasket on the air filter is missing, and the owner has no idea that it even used to be there. So they start woodworking...

You can replace this with self-adhesive weatherstripping and lube it with a bit of grease so it'll slide into the airbox.

While you're at it, you probably need to seal the airbox sides as well.

Here's a nice photo series -- your GK's airbox is nearly identical to the GS850:

      2005 KLR685, Aztec Pink - Turd II.3, the ReReReTurdening
2015 Yamaha FJ-09, Magma Red Power Corrupts...
