chirping sound from exhaust?
I have a 78 gs550. Ive had this chirping sound coming from my exhaust. It happens while riding and when I rev it up while sitting in the garage. it doesn't do it when coming down from the rev or during the entire rev. Its seems as if its only under load. I have gone through the carbs twice and have no leaks on the carb boots. It has the stock 4 to 2 exhaust and has no visual signs of leaks. I also has a new valve gasket and also no signs of leakage. BTW it seems to be only coming from cyl 1 OR 2, its that side of the exhaust anyway. There inst any noticeable signs of carb adjustment that seem out of the ordinary either, such as one having a mixture screw out 4 turns and one out 2 turns or anything. I'm out of ideas at this point.Tags: None

Well I think its a baffle issue. I stuck a plug in the center hole at the back of the exhaust and the chirp when away. Took it out and it was back again. Is this a common thing with stock gs550 exhausts? The bike only has 9000 miles on it ans no rust what so ever on the exhaust.

Maybe a video of the issue? Could be the baffles are moving around with the increase of exhaust velocity and engine vibrations as you run up the rpms or your muffler mount is loose. The plug could be dampening the movement/vibrations in the baffles.

I think its the baffles too. Fortunately I had another set of pipes laying around, put em on and tweety has flow away!
