    Another Petcock Thread

I have what is titled as a 1980 GS750 not sure if it is an L or an E. I have a petcock without a lever. I thought it was broken off but apparently not. Cleaned the carbs today (yes I did them right). I pulled the petcock off and cleaned some gunk off of it, nothing real bad though. I put it back together and only carbs 2 and 3 seem to be getting fuel. Tested the petcock and it ran fuel from the tank when I put vacuum to it. Where should the little plastic slot on the petcock be fixed?

Turn the slot 90 degrees for run.
    You have it on prime.
Prime only works if you apply suction to the vacuum line of the petcock. Either suck on it or hit the start button and then let the bowls fill. Takes a few minutes.

One of the usual "quick tells" is the leading-axle forks, but the '80 750 has them on both the L and the E, so look at the head light and tail light. If the headlight is square and in a "lunchbox" housing along with the gauges, you have an E. If the headlight is round and in a chrome housing, it's an L. For the tail light, the E's light is the tail end of some body work that starts at the back edge of the seat. The L's light is bolted on to a chrome fender. Another giveaway would be the shape of the seat. If it's virtually flat, it's an E. Stepped, it's an L.

Use a small flat blade screwdriver to turn the plastic section of the tap. The slot is vertical for PRIME, horizontal for RUN. You can rotate the plastic thingo in either direction without fear of breaking it.
