STA-BIL in Every Tank or Just During Storage?

Carbs on my bike gunked up for the second time this year. I'm getting pretty darn fast with the clean up business (just a little over an hour), but truth be told I'm getting sick of it. This second time was with a double dose of Seafoam in the fuel too.

Bought some STA-BIL 360 Marine and reviewing the product info it looks to be pretty good stuff. It outgasses and protects the inside of the tank, and the system in general, from corrosion. Noticed the bottom of the float bowls looked sort of discolored on these carbs so some protection seems like a good thing.

All you need is something like 1/2 oz per 5 gallons for regular use, or twice that for extended storage. Anyone out there using this stuff with every tank? I don't ride this bike very much so I'm leaning that way. Can't hurt right?

I use PRI-G. The make claims that it can restore degraded fuel. I use it in place of Sta-Bil and I think it works well and it lasts longer.

Youre getting bad gas or not riding it enough is my thought. In any case, a tuna can and 5 minutes to drain the bowls if its gonna set a while solves the issue. Month old gas in the tanks not the problem..its the small holes in the carb passages and jets that get skanked up thats the problem.

For last three years. I have pretty much run with the maintenance dose of Stabil marine (blue) at all times.The cost is neglible, so I figure it's cheap insurance in case I get a load of bad gas somewhere.
Sounds like you might have scooped some bad gas. I avoid stations with underground storage tanks.

It's not bad gas from the station, I just don't ride the bike enough.

After seeing what the inside of the carbs looked like I'm thinking that anything that prevents corrosion is a good thing.

Got any places that sell real gas and not ethanol only?? That will help a lot to not have the moisture drawing of the ethanol involved.

Ed - I met these people at a tradeshow a while back and was impressed with the comparison demo they performed for me one on one... http://k-100.com/ certainly seemed to live up to their claims. I haven't tried it yet as I had just opened a big pot of red Stabil... I put Stabil in every tank of the GS now. The KLR gets more regular running & doesn't seem as sensitive to it.

I've also been using premium mostly (otherwise the KLR can Pink under heavy load) but I've found it seems to help a bit in the GS too.

PRI-G makes all the same claims. I'm pleased with it so far. I use it in my bass boat and I've never had a fuel related problem.

hmm I had my bike unstarted for the oast 3 months and it started a bit rough but cleaned out witht he new gas sabilizer. I opted for the STP offering this year as you get tice as much for 2 bucks more. Has the same sickly exhaust smell so its probably the same thing.

Its cheap enough to dose a tank if its going to sit for more than a couplke of weeks for sure just make sure its dran into the bowles and passages or you are wasting your time.

Changed the gas in the bike with some STA-BIL laced stuff and it's running great again. Refreshed the fuel in the garage gas can and added the sauce to that as well. Bought a quart of STA-BIL and noticed tonight that it's got a 2 year shelf life. Looks like I'll be using the stuff in everything to get rid of it in time.

I had problems with the ethanol blended fuels here in FL. Since switching to non ethanol fuel no more clogged carbs. I have also been riding a lot more so the gas doesn't sit around as much as it used to

That is the reason you haven't been getting plugged carbs. Ethanol wasn't the cause. Old, stale gas was.

I dont get a lot of riding in per season- usually 1-2 thousand miles. I use Sta-bil when the bike is in its winter slumber, and occasionally mid season as well. Ive noticed it runs a bit better with it in.
It also goes in all other gas powered machines at home, along with the gas can. It seems to work well.

Anytime something gas-powered of mine is going to go unused more than a couple of weeks, it gets fuel conditioner in the tank, and then run long enough for the conditioned gas to run through the carbs. For winterizing, they get a double dose, run enough to get it in the carbs, and stored with a full tank of gas.

I don't have problems with things starting back up and running well in the spring.

I feel for you guys on the US and your corn infested fuel.
I don't think I've ever bought a stabil type product and have a count of 10-11 gas powered things in the yard. A lot of them not used for as much as 6 months at a time, the 850g being one of them , no probs.
I have an old plate tamper with a 5horse honda on it unused til this summer for about 4 years. Checked the oil and pulled the rope maybe 4 times run good.
