81 GS850G is this petcock toast?

I pulled the petcock and soaked it in vinegar overnight. Came out clean as new but I have two problems, I knew going in. One is the screen or fuel filter at the top. On other bikes that would come off and you could replace it. This one seems glued in so I'm wondering if anyone has repaired that "screen" material? I was thinking a scrap of panty hose slipped over the top and held at the bottom with SS safety wire.

The second problem is the 5 hole gasket is torn in two places. I can get a new one but no need if I'm going to replace the petcock with a new assembly.

You don't want the filter to pop off - it should be glued in,not easily removed.

just get new petcock and stop fiddling. I got mine here....

the reason I asked if that filter came off, I was working on an 81 KZ550 a couple of weeks ago and the petcocks looked very similar. That one the filter came right off and I could see that it was held in place by being sandwiched between the tank bottom and tank to petcock gasket. But that one was offered as a separate part number where the Suzuki is not. In the back of my head I knew I'd just be ordering a new petcock. They are enough trouble when new let alone old and rebuilt....LOL
