    Ive always had success with the pointed tool and driving them out from down the slide towers. This guy made a tool to get them out. May be the thing to get theses ones out and get the rebuild done. Start around post 30.

      And again Sirius has the float seats and needles listed since you may be ordering the pilot screws from them too.

          Many thanks to all the very helpful contributors to this thread.

          Becoming aware of the potential for broken fuel screw tips, I illuminated the interior of the slide body, and could see light through the wee hole that the fuel screw seats into. All four carbs had clear holes, and the holes seemed about equal diameters. No broken tips in there.

          I took a straight length of soft copper wire of diameter 0.022 inches, and that was a slip fit with little play in all the holes.

          I'll take another look at the four fuel screw tips to see if they're dull or fractured. Maybe a little marcophotography for the next note.

            If the ports are all open youre good to go. I would suggest you get all 4 new screws and be certain they are all good as far as length and proper tapper goes.

                Here's a macro image of the fuel screws where I tried to focus on their tips.

                The order from L to R is carbs 1 to 4.

                It may be beneficial to download the image and zoom with your software.

                  From what I see it looks like all 4 are different lengths and all 4 have been " sharpened " at some point. I wouldnt use them if they were going in any of my bikes. But thats my opinion. New ones arent all that expensive and youll know with confidence they are functioning correctly.

                    Thanks Chuck. I think you're right. There's a little fisheye effect from the camera, but the screws are all different, and those grinding marks are not up to Mikuni surface finish standards. I'll get new fuel screws.

                    Meanwhile, I've got all the slides out of the bodies to get needle clip position, and the four slides were not synchronized very well. The highest slide was about 30 thou higher than the lowest slide. I think with that old drill bit technique I can get them within 2 or 3 thou.

                        Just a bit of follow up with a macro of the Suzy's VM carb air screws.

                        Which appear to be unmolested, but perhaps sharper eyes will offer the continued good and experienced advice.

                          The MIXTURE screws are supposed to be flat tipped like that. They look fine.

                            K&L makes the fuel screws. I bought a set to use the springs as they were missing from my carbs. Got mine from Z1 but any K&L dealer should have them. Never compared the new ones to the OEM ones so can't really comment on quality.

                              Thanks hannibal. The K&L catalogue does certainly have many carb parts and seems like a very good source.
