Hope that is clear enough to understand. FYI full choke does run and idle about 1800 to 2000 but then it gets warm and too much gas and it stumbles because of the overly rich mixture from the enrichener.

81 GS8509G idle speed adjuster slips
I just finished rebuilding the carbs on my 850G and put them on the bike. The thing won't idle. When I try to increase the idle speed adjustment it turns about 1/2 turn then I can hear it click and kind of slip back. It idles fine if I hold the throttle open a little. Acts like the threads are stripped is the best I can describe it. I haven't pulled the rack back off to take a look but I've never even heard of one of those stripping. Now I'm wondering if when I put it back together I didn't catch the right "tang" or somehow mis-aligned it.

I have a funeral to go to this morning so I'll take a look later. Yeah this thing is the easiest bike I've owned to R&R the carbs. Almost like a paid vacation.... LOL
Not like that God awful KZ550 where it takes me an hour to put the air box boots back on.. Those silly spring clamps are a PIA.

Well I found the problem and it was lightly stripped. The female part. The hole and threads seemed sloppy. I used a punch and hammer to peen both sides to help close up the hole. Then cutting oil to get the screw part back in. Not perfect but holding for now. According to partzilla the part I need is no longer available. Probably no chance of finding a nut that would fit those threads that I could weld onto the bracket.

Woke up to snow and cold this am. I have the rack back together but as you know I can pull it apart in a couple of minutes.
Part number 55 Looks like a "C" with a threaded tail.
Also since the threads are "skinny" right at the point of adjustment part number 57 the thumb screw itself. when taking it off the carb they come off as a unit.
Thank you for the offer! Most generous offer indeed.Last edited by Guest; 01-17-2016, 09:58 AM.
