Those look to be in nice shape and should clean up nicely. I've restored a few sets of those and resold them for good profit on ebay. The Kawasaki guys are gaga over them.
I think I've got a full O-ring set for them if you are in need. You can order from Z1 as well. The jetblock gaskets are fragile but sometimes you can save them. Also, be careful of the jetblock screw threads since they often strip out.
If that brown varnish is gluing the slide inside the body use a hot air gun to soften the sludge. Often the slide will fall free after heating whereas soaking in carb dip can't get inside to where it needs to to free them up.
Good luck.Ed

Thanks, Ed. These actually came off a KZ900 I picked up locally. No title for it so I am not sure of it's fate.
The slides are glued and great idea with the heat gun.
If you don't need the O-rings, I will be happy to use them. You can send me a PM with the total and I will Paypal you.
I did read about the jet block screws being fragile.

If you have some calipers please measure the air screw and fuel transfer tube O-ring sizes. I've got a box full of O-rings and need to refresh my memory as to what ones fit the Smoothbores.
Edit: found the sizes. BV30/40 - fuel transfer tube O-rings are 8.70 x 1.95mm, VM14/75 for the air screws are 2.50 x 1.55mm.Last edited by Nessism; 01-25-2016, 10:43 AM.Ed

I checked out Z1 (glad they are back) and they appear to have everything needed for the carbs. I will put an order through with them and let you know only if I come up short.

Regular VM Robert Barr kit for all the standard orings, bowl cap orings, and jet block gaskets, and new bowl to body gaskets are all you need. Note the jet block has a small hole on the engine side..be sure its clear and the gasket and jet block line up and dont cover the hole. As youll see there arent pilot screws on VM29s...the hole at the back of the jet block is the pilot fuel hole.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

I just started to rebuild a very rough looking set of 29's as well. found in an attic with unknown history. They need a bit of work but are salvageable. Follow the progress on my Facebook page here...... https://www.facebook.com/Agemax.carbs/1978 GS1085.
Just remember, an opinion without 3.14 is just an onion!

Your fb page is really awesome. I took a short stroll and saw a lot of good work.
It was weird, at the top you have the phone number and I had to do a double take. It looks so much like mine.
440 781 2910 haha
That last set of of VM carbs you were working on look spectacular.
Thanks for sharing

Do you polish the needles, floats etc. or are they brightened by a particular solvent?1978 GS1085.
