    carb problems

i have a 1980 gs850 that i have redone and now when the bike warms up the carbs stick open. the cable is new and the carbs have been cleaned a couple of times. everything works perfect until it is warmed up. when it sticks the cable is free and slides easily but the butterflies are stuck. with a slight touch they close back but if you rev engine again they stick again. i'm lost on this one, hoping someone else has had this problem before.

Sounds like a hanging idle because of vacuum leaks.

Check the newbie mistakes thread for info on this and more tidbits that should help you.

The throttle plates ( thru their linkage) rest on a soild stop provided cable lets them. On my bike, I can put my hand on the idle stop screw and feel them hit the stop when throttle cable tension is released. Did you bench sync these carbs? Properly set, all plates will appear just barely open the same amount when resting on idle stop screw.

as mentioned, you probably have airleaks.
