Guidance needed with Morgan Carbtune Pro

I'm trying to do a carb sync on my 82 650 and have to say I'm a little confused about what I'm doing. Is there a number ranger on the scale that I should be aiming for? Or am I just trying to get them all even?

The problems I keep having are
    • Little to no reading on the carbtune
    • Only getting readings from cylinder 3 & 4
    • Stalling the engine

Also can anyone recommend a better tool than this thing?

The throttle & choke cable guide that's mounted to the top of carb 3 blocks me from getting to the adjustment screw. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Remove the choke cable guide for the job and then replace when you are done. That is the tool you want and the best one for the job.

Basscliff has procedures for using the Carbtune here - http://members.dslextreme.com/users/...rb-balance.pdf

Get them even; if you aren't getting any reaction then turn it upside down and work from that location watching for movement. I would recommend making sure everything is properly cleaned within the carbs first (you did dip them didn't you?) and be sure to do a good bench sync before starting the bike up. Also be sure you are able to run the bike off the choke when you do it

Hopefully you also adjusted the valves before trying a carb sync?

If you are doing both jobs, valves should be done first.

There is no "magic number" to shoot for, you are looking to get them all the same.

As cowboyup mentioned, remove the linkage from carb #3, you will have easy access to the center sync adjuster. Start with that one, set the vacuum on #2 to match #3. Next, move to the left, set #1 to match #2 and #3. Note that they might not stay where they were and you will have to tweak them again. Finally, adjust #4 to match the others.

Thanks for the tips guys! I worked on it yesterday and the carbs are all synced up now. And yes the carbs were dipped, re-ringed, yadda, yadda as well as the valves.
