What is this part on the ends of the carbs?

These are off a 1980 GS850G. On the left and right end of the carbs I see this. On other carbs, there is usually just a hole. The part moves in and out a little bit. I don't see it on the fiche/part list. Anybody know what it is and it's purpose?
    This is one end.

I've never seen those plugs before. Regarding that last photo showing the end carb, that carb looks different from most others I've seen; there are lots of extra mounting bosses. Are you sure those carbs are originally from an 850?

The seller said they were from '80 GS850G. They have never been opened, and still have the covers over the idle mixture screw.

The carbs need a good cleaning though. I'm assuming I can just pull these plugs out and be done with them...

Looks like the capped continuation of the breather chamber that runs across the top (above in the bowl height but low on the main body ) Aside from that I'll bet U have fuel inlet between 2+3 that is bowl height and you will have 2 plastic hose connection locations between 1+2......3+4 that are about 1/2" higher and more toward the center of the carbs? ?? I'll bet if you to make this carb say......the second or third carb in the set, this would be a location to put the plastic "T" connection in to link another carb to it.

Gawd I can't explain worth a shizzle! Sorry!

As the radbassist says, that could be a repurposed #2 or #3 carb...I am not familiar with the 850s to make that determination, but maybe Nessism or Chef would have a better feeling for it

If someone did indeed repurpose 2 carbs, they did a very nice job on the screws. There is absolutely no indications that these have been taken apart. I'm having a tough time getting the screws out even with the JIS screwdrivers.

I like that term "repurpose". Seems like that's what happened. I agree, it looks professional. Regarding getting those screws out, good luck. I bought a set of Vessel impact screwdrivers that work well for carbs. They are not as robust as a full blown impact driver but for carbs they are "enough".

SO I decided to pull these "plugs" and see what they are. Surprise

1 stem valve cap and 1 bullet shell wrapped in black tape. Maybe the original owner decided that he didn't like those exposed holes.

A picture of the re-opened holes show a dead-end. So no need to plug them back up, but why not? I have the plugs!

Ha. Surprised I missed that in the first image but in retrospect, that is a pretty obvious firing pin mark in the middle of the primer.
