Not sure but thinking you better plan on some major mods internally to run them.the 36's from an 1150 may be a better choice with out to many mods1984 GS1100GK newest addition to the heard
80 GS 1000gt- most favorite ride love this bike
1978 GS1000E- Known as "RoadKill" , Finished :D
83 gs750ed- first new purchase
85 EX500- vintage track weapon
1958Ducati 98 Tourismo
“Remember When in doubt use full throttle, It may not improve the situation ,but it will end the suspense ,
If it isn't going to make it faster or safer it isn't worth doing

Tried this out about 15 years ago ...... from memory (and not too good a memory - I "inhaled" a lot back then)
youll need z1000J inlet rubbers and a lot of patience
tne bike ran like sh1t on them and after endless tweaking I gave up and put some 29's on it78 GS1000C- Now sporting 1100E suspension and numerous goodies
82 GS750E/82 1100E/ GSXR Frankenstein bike completed
83 1100E "rescue bike" saved from the barn
2008 Bking - Torque Torque Torque
Next project slowly coalescing

You can probably sell those 38's or trade them for 36's "SlingShot" carbs and still have a few bucks to spare.
These were free because all the jets and floats have been removed for other things but the rest is all there slides, top caps, the rails the hold them together. I was just thinking about building them for my bike. Dont know what they'd be worth though. They are in really good shape no corrosion or physical damage and the diaphragms are in good shape too

Minimum to rebuild is new inserts and new emulsion tubes with new needles, and of course proper jets for your application, which for a 8V 1000g is not even applicable as they are too big.
