cleaning all the brass tidbits while carb bodies are dipping ? and gaskets?

    Cleaning VM carbs-

Best method to clean up all the brass bits that get removed when carbs go skinny dipping?
just hit them with Gumout spray and compressed air, or should I do ... more ?

Also- OEM only for bowl gaskets, or is other ( ebay ) gaskets good enough?

I bought these and they work well...http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUZUKI-1978-...UtNfieAIm9YWcw

Brass bits can go in carb dip.

I dip them in a tin with some carb spray in it for a few hrs. Be easy when spraying the carb spray into the tin ( cat food can is what I have ). Then i poke ll the holes out with a wire plucked from my wire brush. Next I use 000 grade steel wool to clean the outsides and a Qtip stick down the center of the emulsion tubes. Respray with carb spray and air.

After you dip the brass components you should run a small diameter wire through each hole. I use a cut strand from a wire brush to do this. You can wire brush all the brass pieces after to make them nice a shiny but it's not necessary. Nothing needs to be shiny inside to be perfectly functional.

Thanks guys- I'm a little concerned about using steel wire in brass jets. I do have some brass brushes that will gladly donate a wire or 2....

The steel wool wont hurt them..just polishes up the outsides nicely. Youre not running steel wool down the centers or anything like that. I use it just to clean the outsides super nice so as to assure they are free of ALL crud.

No reason to make them all pretty and shinny. Nothing will benefit from it and you wont see them when done. Besides, after a day or two in the gas, they'll be looking just like they did before the polish job. Just make sure that all the openings are free and clear of debris. Don't be too aggressive with the cleaning out of the holes. You don't want anything to enlarge the openings in the process.

That is why I'm not using steel wire :-)

FWIW, mine had a reasonable amount of corrosion, so I put them in some homemade brass cleaning solution (for cleaning brass when reloading). Worked great.

I ordered gaskets from the same Ebay seller as Ed. I used a plastic toothpicks/flossers to clean the jets.

they will look new when done, its all I use on brass, it will do a better job than carb cleaner. just let them soak for a few hours, rinse with isopropyl alcohol.

Excellent, glad I was of help! First time I tried this stuff on aircraft fuel nozzles I was blown away with the results, it's my go too for brass.

                              cheers
