    what does this cover do?

Can I leave it off my bike?
    - These carbs are not originally from my bike, and I have cleaned the -bleep- out of my carbs. This cover is ugly.
    What was it for?
I found it on the GS1100GL 'fiche

I think it keeps your clutch cable from interfering with the carbs.

Also keeps the clutch cable off the back of the head...my bike has a metal hoop much like the plastic speedo cable guide on the front fender....they're there to guide the cable from harms way...
