I need a different choke cable... or different bracket

As I install the { freshly dipped, cleaned, and polished } carbs I bought last June, I now realize the choke cable on my bike has a barrel on it, while the 82-ish 1100 carbs I bought had a different cable end.
My bike has the choke knob through the steering stem. ( previous carbs I took off are RS36 - choke on carbs, so no cable )

Should I change the carb bracket thing to work with my cable, or buy a different choke cable from a ... ?? Edit: my choke cable is seized, so I need a new one anyway

    Here's what I have:

You can interchange the choke lifters and the hookup combinations. Just takes some reorgnizing them. Or just get the corresponding cable for what you have. They make stem mounted cables with the barrel and the round pin type ends.

I like it better without choke cable and operate choke on carb by hand, you just cant walk away from bike as it warms up...less is better

You are NOT using the RS36 carbs.....correct??? Just swap what you need between the CVs or get the right cable....whichever you choose.

Do you know what models came with the smaller (round pin) type end?

NOt using the RS36 that were on the bike when I got it. Don't have original carbs to borrow the parts.

                  Thank you for looking !
but when I google that part # for the Cooley, it shows me the barrel type. :-(

After more searching, I found this :

                  Part 548400-45100

Looks like the carbs I got are 1979 or older... or at least the bracket is.

                        for future reference.....
Choke cables through the steering stem:
part # 58400-49010 and 584010-45110 have barrel ends, fits most all GS 1980+ ( I am taking a guess that they are different lengths.) ( also try K28-2148)( or motion pro 04-0113)

58400-45100 has the smaller, pin type end, shown above, fits most all GS from 1977 to 1979
                        04-0113

The '82 and newer carbs do have the smaller end, but the top end goes to a thumb lever under the left hand grip. You might be able to use that one from the '79, but it probably won't fit in the bracket on the carbs.

As Chuck mentioned in post #2, it is rather easy to just swap the brackets over from your old carbs to the new carbs. Along with the brackets, you will need to change the "choke" rod and all the hardware that is currently between carbs 3 and 4, then install the linkage that was on carb 2 on your old carbs.

I went the other way with the carbs on my '80 850. I installed the "choke" mechanism from an '82 bike, which also required updating the left handgrip, but I got the easier activation I was looking for.

Steve- that would be the way to go... if I had old GS carbs to take the parts from. See post #1.

I could convert to left thumb choke, but that would take more $$$.... and even worse, more time.

While you are at it with the cable it might be worth it to pick up a cable lube tool and cable oil. It is a lot easier to lube them before they are installed.
