Stock air box to pods question
Can I just put pods on my 82 suzuki gs850l without rejetting my carbs. It has stock air box on it now.Tags: None

No, you will need to rejet. If you are completely set on doing this, you should get good quality K&N or APE pods and a dynojet stage 3 kit. The Dynojet kit comes with a different needle which greatly affects the mixture. It has more taper than the stock needle so raising/lowering the needle has a noticeable affect on the mixture. You can not replicate the kit by purchasing loose jets and tuning the bike yourself, although lots of people do try. Also realize that those cheapo Emgo pods that most of the cafe/bobber guys are running are pretty much junk. They are paper filters, not gauge like K&N's, so they must be run dry, not with oil like K&N's. They can not be cleaned like K&N's. K&N's are NOT cheap though. Figure on $120 for a Dynojet kit and $150 for real K&N pods. That's a lot of money for what you get out of a swap like that. Pods are affected by cross winds and rain too. I can sort of understand people running pods on a true performance bike, but not just for "the look."Ed

Most of my experience with pods is my son's 650L. It only has pods on it because that is how we got it, almost 15 years ago, and I have not bothered to look for a replacement airbox.

Thats the exact reason i stuck with the k&n drop in. Itd be pointless for my bike and me at my skill level of a rider to do that. Im choosing to focus on suspension and handling. Although i am bumping up the mains for my 4 into 1 but not a ton
Plus shaftys are pointless to mod right hahahaha

I might consider pods for my 900F because it's an absolute nightmare to get the carbs off. The carbs have to come off before you can get the airbox off. Nothing like the piece of cake my GS1100 is. Also owned: 1973 Kawasaki Z1 900, 1972 Honda 750 K, 1976 Yamaha XS 650, 1980 Kawasaki KZ 1000 MKII, 1978 Kawasaki SR 650. Current cage is a 2001 Mustang Bullitt in Dark Highland Green. Bought new in Sept. 2001.
