Agreed, literally one singular grain of sand was in the main jet on my tc185 and i couldn't go over 4500ish rpms it was the most terrible 15mile ride.. bike only makes 18hp at 7800 and trust me you need all 18 haha dummy me didn't realize the main was mounted to the side of the bowl at the time haha

Here are some pictures of the stock jets and the oversized jets and washers that the dealer installed along with the pod filters. The writing is clear (you can zoom in too) but I don't know what it means. The hole diameter in the stock jets is noticeably smaller than the after markets.

I didn't put the washers in with the stock jets. SHOULD I HAVE? I thought they were added to raise the needle and allow more gas and were not stock....

The writing is the brand logo, and the numbers are jet size.

The brass washer goes below the main jet no mater what jet you use. The "larger" jet is the incorrect jet for those carbs. Those are the Mikuni "small head" jet. The stock jet is the Mikuni "large head" jet and is the correct type. The small head jet will work but is not technically the correct jet for the BS application.

Thanks for the info, I'm going to drain and remove the carbs, (hopefully today) and add the washers to the stock jets. It makes sense because the bike feels like it's fuel starved at wide open throttle and if the washers allow more gas in by changing the needle height it should be okay. As I mentioned, it runs and responds fine using only up to about 1/2 throttle. My original research indicated that the washers are not factory installed and are added afterward with larger jets, but I guess what I read was wrong. This will likely correct the problem.

And to confirm, yes the "large head" jet is the stock/ original jet that came out of the carbs. It's ironic that the "large head" jets have smaller orifices.

That's what I get for not doing my homework. I'll report back what happens this afternoon....

If the washers are installed correctly (between the main jet and the needle jet), they do NOTHING to change the needle height. Their ONLY function is to provide a shoulder for the main jet to rest on and help clamp the needle jet into place.

There ARE washers from the factory, and they are in between the main jet and the needle jet. It is possible that, with your smaller-head main jets, the needle jet is sliding up, out of position, which could cause some jetting problems.

Not really surprising, they are both available in a wide range of orifice sizes. You just happened to see those two sizes.

Thanks Steve and JTG. I took the carbs off again yesterday and installed the washers under the stock jets. My bad for not doing my homework and listening to people who just make s**t up as they go along. Should have done my homework. Anyway, the bike starts and idles and revs great now, AND it has that "new bike exhaust smell" LOL. Just kidding, before with the large jets that were installed with the pod filters, the bike ran so rich (after I replaced the stock airbox) that I could almost wring out the unburned gas out of my clothes. The bike hardly has an exhaust smell now so I think it's going to be okay, even at WOT. I'm looking forward to a ride today since there should be less cars on the road because of the Easter holiday.

Took a 20 mile ride today. The bike runs fantastic with no more breakup at WOT. The bike is noticeably faster than my previous 1980 GS850G. Scary fast actually, in my opinion...
