    Broken pilot jets

I bought a 1982 gs550 and started going thru the carbs. 3 of them have broken/siezed pilot jets. LH drill didn't help, soaking didn't help. Any ideas?

Try using a straight edge screwdriver blade that fit's INSIDE the threaded area without hitting the sides. After you've soaked it with PB Blaster and heated it up with a torch, try to find the original slot in the jet and give the screwdriver a good rap with a hammer to set it deeper into the brass. That should grab it and allow you to turn it out. Just make sure you apply a lot of downward force while trying to turn it.

If that doesn't work, and the jets are already shot, then you can use a small Torx driver and ram it down into the jet opening. That will give you more torque but the jet will be useless after.

Darn, with so many daily riders it's hard to decide which one to jump on next.;)

Previous owner already broke off top of jet. It's just a brass piece with a hole now.

Then the Torx driver method may still work. The jets will be shot but they're already are. You may be able to salvage the carb bodies though.

Did you use PB Blaster and a torch to heat the carb bodies? Break off the EZ Out?

Nobody said to use an EZ-out. Big mistake if you broke it off inside. That carb body is now toast.

I didn't say an easy out broke off in it, only that it didn't work. One if the bodies, the previous owner broke a drill bit off in the jet

As it no doubt has been soaking in penetrating oil for days now, can you not
try the torx driver method ? Saving jets is long gone now.

you are almost getting to the point of no return so will start getting more and more brutal.
Tapping on the top of the jet with a flat punch lightly might help free it ....

I think the end game is heat, torx and in the end tapping the torx driver in and hoping it twists it out.
                  What a shame.
I have been in similar situations and when the final straw came - make of break - things worked.

I will try n get a torx with a screwdriver handle. The only ones I have are for sockets and don't fit down the hole.

you should have started with a 1mm left handed drill bit stepping it up until eventually the pilot jet would come out with the drill bit.
