    Intake boot sync port gaskets...

    Hi all,

The OEM intake boots I bought for my 850 came without the gaskets for the sync ports. They're cheap on the PartsOutlaw website, but parts I but from them tend to take a long time to arrive. So I have two questions:

    1) what are they made of?
    2) are they something that can be found at my local (very good) hardware store?

IIRC on my 550 I found them to be simple copper washers, but no idea what your sync ports look like, and if those washers were stock. They worked fine enough.

      Wow..... that was quick!

I suspect my sync ports look pretty much like yours do, but whatever the case I'm sure the washers/gaskets perform the same function. There is a guy on Ebay right now who wants $6.00 each for them (which is completely ridiculous IMO), but he's got a photo of the package and it looks like they're made from copper (or brass?). So since they're metal (as opposed to rubber), I'm guessing you need to get them fairly tight?

Yeah this is a ridiculous price, your hardware store sure has them way cheaper.

Well, yes and no: I'd do them about the same as with the spark plugs: hand-tight, and not with excessive force. Copper is a soft metal, it's deformation is what creates the gas-tight seal. Hence these are also known as crush washers.
