Exhaust for 81' GS650G
Okay, let's get straight to the point. Just finished my GS. And Now with a couple of miles under it's belt, I'd Like to do some exhaust work. Louder is better for my ear's and opinion but I'd rather not go straight pipe. Just want some Sound clips of other's 650 exhaust or ideas. I Don't know if I really wanna spend the money on one of those MAC exhaust kit's. I've read that there quality isn't that great. I'm don't have a problem of cutting up the factory exhaust. Bike is already pod'd and jetted from dynoJet. And I know I'm going to get some heat and hate from this. Thanks.Tags: None

Are you looking for 4 into 2 and keeping the stock look, or prefer a 4 into 1?
I have a BUB 4 into 1 (NOS) picked up from a member here a few years ago, and it'd do what you are looking to hear. It's not overly loud around town, but get on the throttle and it growls. It might be a tad too loud for my liking at times, but I've had a few people wander over wondering what exhaust I had on my "1100". Funny the expression on their face when they realize it's just a 650.
BUB doesn't make this exhaust anymore. The JAMA/Laser/Marshall Deeptone is the closest thing I've been able to find to it in the last couple of years. You might have to order it from Europe though.'83 GS650G

My son got a 650L back in about 2001 or 2002. It came with a MAC 4-into-1 pipe and cheapie EMGO pods. Had larger main jets, stock needles. It sounded OK, but a bit loud for my tastes. He lost the baffle one night coming home from school on the freeway. By the time he could circle back around to pick it up, it had been run over and flattened, so we shopped for a replacement.
Apparently, the baffle that was in it was the "competition" baffle, as it went straight through. We got the "street" baffle and installed it. MUCH quieter tone, but still a nice purr from a 4-into-1 system. Sold the bike to a friend a couple months ago, who also appreciates the quieter sound.
The quality of the pipe never came into question. The pipes were discolored and a bit rusted when we got the bike, they never got any worse. A few years ago, we had the header pipes ceramic coated, which cleaned up the looks considerably. You can click on the link in my sig to see what they look like. Not quite as shiny as the muffler, but they don't look bad at all. I liked the look so much, I had the same thing done to the header on my 850. Click the link to see that one, too.
