Rejet carbs, started for a minute, now wont start again, help!

    Hi Guys,

I rejetted my carbs this weekend, main and pilot. reinstalled the carbs, bike fired up, ran, i messed with the choke a little then it died. Went to restart it and nothing. I can verify the carbs are getting fuel and installed new plugs. wondering if anyone has ever experienced anything similar, or what may cause this. Do i need to go back and pull the carbs again and go through it? Ive been trying to get it to fire for about an hour, all different choke positions, throttle etc.

    Thanks,

I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that this might be on a MOTORCYCLE?

Dare we even hope that it's a SUZUKI?

Our only clue is that you are on a Suzuki GS forum, so we hope that's what you are working on.

However, we can't help you until you help us.

Sorry, I went out to dinner. Put one of the plugs into the spark plug wires and hold it against one of the cylinder head nuts or any reachable ground and see if you are still getting spark.

This is his bike from another post:

              IMG_5438.jpg

Pods, no mufflers. I'm surprised it started in the first place.
              Current:
Z1300A5 Locomotive (swapped my Intruder for it), GS450 Cafe Project (might never finish it....), XT500 Commuter (I know - it's a Yamaha )

              Past:
              VL1500 Intruder (swapped for Z1300), ZX9R Streetfighter (lets face it - too fast....), 1984 GSX750EF, 1984 GSX1100EF (AKA GS1150)
And a bunch of other crap Yamahas....

excuse my haste. This is reference to a 1987 GS450L. Ran decent prior to rejet, ran okay when it started after the re jet (definitely needed adjustment) but atleast it was running. Trying to think throough what would be causing my issue and coming up with a blank. Have spark to both plugs, new plugs, carb has fuel, all vents and lines are connected as they should be. Is it possible the needle needs more adjustment?

A needle (mis-)adjustment will not keep it from starting.

It would not be the first time that some crud in the fuel line has made it into the carb and plugged a pilot jet.

Frustrating? Yes, especially after just being in the carbs, but don't rule it out.

When you installed the pilot jets did you seat them and then turn back out 2 1/5 turns?

Negative, just seated them. Could that be the root cause? If so, why would it have started once then not again?

Not sure about why it started briefly, but it ain't gonna run without setting the pilots correctly.

I will pull them off again tonight and see if that makes a difference. What other potential reasons would there be for a no fire other than, no fuel or no spark?

With the pilot jets seated no fuel can reach the pilot circuit, therefore it cannot start.

                              Interesting. Hopefully, that's the issue.
