82 GS1100G carb, BS34SS vs BS34 ????

Been searching like crazy trying to figure out what the heck "SS" means in the Suzuki designation of the BS34 carb as a BS34SS. What the difference, if any, and can I just shop for BS34 parts for these carbs?

Any of the BS34s for the larger four-cylinder bikes will be SS. There were some BS34s on the early 450s, I don't think they had the "SS" designation, but they were BS34s.

What parts are you looking for? Hopefully NOT "rebuild kits".

In general, I'd just like to know if anything I read about Mikuni BS34s applies to Mikuni BS34SS. The only reference I see anywhere to "SS" is for Suzukis. And yes, knowing whether BS34 parts are the same as those on BS34SS would be helpful. Does SS mean anything"

Air mixture screw. But, as another example, I can find an after-market drain screw that has a nipple for a piece of tubing - but its for a Mikuni BS34. So it's be nice to buy, handy for testing float height (and draining carbs for removal), but I don't know if it'll fit a BS34SS. Also, I can find float needles for BS34s that are sold separate from the whole assembly - my screens and the needle seat are in great shape, the needles may have a bit of a ridge worn where they seat. It'b be nice to spend $7 on the needle rather than the 35$ (per carb) for the "assembly" which is listed on Partzilla.

Mikuni and Suzuki call those "pilot screws." They come in both brass and stainless steel variants but all are interchangeable as far as I know.

The drain screw on the normal BS34's is simply a steel hex head with a small shoulder built in. The thread size is super small though, something like .6 or .7. I've seen some brass drain screws but those are different.

Mikuni doesn't sell float needles. If you find separate float needles that means they are aftermarket and buyer beware. You can get real deal Mikuni float needles and seats for about $15/each off Amazon. If the bike you are redoing is a keeper, that's money well spent.
