Differences between the '88 gs459l and other years, Carburetor and other.

Started doing a rebuild of my carburetor and realized it's not the same model as in the tutorial or the clymer. Just curious if a Carburetor from an older gs450 would fit in my '88. Is there any resource to compare parts compatibility, or model changes between the years? Thanks!

I don't know about the others, but I was not aware that the 450 was still around in '88.

Can you post a picture of your carbs? I know there was a change several years earlier, about '82 or '83, can't imagine another change after that.

There was an 88 gs450l, no other models. You can see the difference by searching on partsoutlaw or other parts sites. 81 vs 88 https://www.partsoutlaw.com/oemparts...d6d/carburetor

I guess we've established the carburetor changed in '83. My question would be, could an '81 Carburetor work on an '88? The size is the same, right?

I would assume that you could put in an older pair with minimal work as the engines remained virtually unchanged although there may be some minor jetting changes. To compare different jetting schemes that were used - take a look at this page on basscliffs site:

            1980/1981 GS450 - GS500 Cylinder + Piston Swap - "De-L'ed", custom seat, CB350 bits, 18" rear, etc.

well the specs all say they had 43 HP so one doubts the carbs could be radically different in flow etc. but do they fit hmmm corss ref the intake pipes maybe? Airbox?

Call me a noob, but I can't tell from the diagrams and parts if they are the same size (fit) or not. Anyone with a Keen eye know better?

Part# 13110-44001 is the intake pipe for both so OD of head side of carbs is the same one assumes
