    1980 GS1000s - will not tick over

Hi i am looking for some help !!
Have finished restoring my 1980 GS1000s but have a serious problem in that it will not tick over and sounds like a bag of bolts at low revs.
I definitely have a carb issue as the bike runs like a dream when ridden above 3000 revs.
I live in Southampton in the UK and was wondering if anyone knows of a specialist who could look at my bike, or where i could take the bike as it is driving me mad !!

( Carbs have been ultrasonically cleaned, taken back off the bike at least 5 times with all new jets etc, but I do not have the skills to go any further)

    Very frustrated !!!

Get those carbs vacuum gauge synced first. Bet it eliminates most ..to all of the problem.

I'm not sure what a tick over might be but - did you bench synch the carbs? That should get you pretty close on the synchronization. What about valve clearance? Those are the easy suggestions and should help assuming nothing is mechanically wrong. Tick over? I'm missing something in the translation.

Bag of bolts at low rpm ,while not ticking over (now that know what ticking over means), could be cam chain rattling around. It that more like slapping around.

i had seen others say “not ticking over” before and thought that meant starter not turning over engine, and then I wondered why then was discussion of carburators (or carbies). Ha!

I thiunk the "bag of bolts" is mostly from carbs out of sync. He says its only at low RPMs and if the basket was gone south it would be at all RPMs.

Sorry chuck, I was referring to the notorious clutch rattle... to the op does it get quiter when you pull in the clutch?

I understand Trevor. The OP needs to know that out of sync carbs will make the engine rock and roll like an Irion Maiden drum solo.
