    1979 Gs1000L

Recently got this bike for $250 so my dad and I been learning and getting this ol gal back on the road.. planning on trying the mac 4-2-1 ehaust and wondering what would be the best options for carb jets it currently has the 15 pilots and 95 mains and runs pretty strong with just a new k&n stock box air filter.. any help would be much appreciated

If you keep the stock airbox the required changes are minimal. Bump the main a size or so and try. Dump the airbox for pods and you gotta extensively rejet though.

Oh, and when posting threads please make sure the title describes the problem, not just the bike.

Good luck and check this website for tons of good info...http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/

Be sure to check out Basscliff's website for tutorials on cleaning the carbs. I put my 850L back together several years ago before joining this site and found his tutorials were phenomenal. without them I would still be playing carb pool.

Hi Tyoung and welcome to the forum. When I originally installed a Vance and Hines on my 78 GS1000, the instructions supplied with the new exhaust gave four things to do if keeping the airbox.
1- Leave off air box lid
2- Change main jet from #95 to #120
3- Lower jet needle one clip position from 3 to position 4 counting from the top
4- Open fuel screw 1/2 turn ( the screws on the bottom and the tips on these screws are super delicate)
A Mac exhaust may require slightly different tuning but on my bike, it ran well with the supplied instructions for V&H.
Best of luck and lots of help available here.
