How to tell correct jet size 78 GS1000
I ordered a rebuild kit for the 78 GS1000. It was listed as everything supposed to be stock size. Everything Im finding seems to be correct by pictures of other jets, but when I pulled everything apart the pilot jet holes seem to be much larger. There were pods on the bike when I got it. After putting the stock airbox back on, it seems to be running correctly. Now I'm not sure if the jets I have in or the ones in the kit are wrong. I went through Basscliffs site and didn't seem to find quite what I need. Any help would be appreciated. I will try to post a photo for reference as well. Thank you.Tags: None

I saw that was the size in the service manual. I ordered a carb kit that was supposed to be for this bike but since the jets are all threaded differently I'm trying to figure out if the kit is bogus or my carbs are wrong. I couldn't find a part number on the carb. 20180223_161807.jpg

You dont need the jets from any kits. You dip the existing ones and poke all the holes witha fine wire being sure all holes are open. douse with lots of carb spray and compessed air. Carb tutorial here.
Oring kit here...

I know what standard ones are supposed to be and I've been through that whole site. I'm simply trying to verify that the carbs and jets I have are the correct ones as I have only had the bike 1 year and it's 40 years old. The jets that are in it are cleaned at this point it's just nice to have something nice and new(if it's the correct size).

Hard to tell from the pic but they look like the stock GS1000 carbs.
Measure the inside diameter of the carb throat on the airbox side. It should be 26mm.
Get out the magnifying glass and look at the stock jets.
Hopefully the sizes are still etched into the top or sides of them.2@ \'78 GS1000

The throats will measure close..and maybe sightly over..26 MM. Rrom what i can see I second they look to be stock VM26 carbs.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Sharkbait, a real lack if reading comprehension is going on here
As Steve M says, get out a magnifying glass and look for the #15 on your pilots and #95 on the mains, it should be on there. That's how you tell what you have
The fuel screws all need to be the same length
BTW, your photo shows (top to bottom)

I didn't pull the main to compare since the others were already mismatched. Most everything is worn down to where I can no longer read it. Put a second set of eyes on it just in case. After scouring the forums and interwebs over the last day or so, all of the pics seem to confirm mine are the correct ones and I measured the carbs as well. The jets I ordered seemed to be mis labeled and are from the Wes cooley version. Bigger issue at hand is that one of the choke plungers is broken.

The plunger itself, or the little arm that pulls it up?
The 79 Wes Cooley uses the same carbs and jetting as yours. The 80 WCR has different carbs1978 GS 1000 (since new)
