    1978 GS750 exhaust

Does anyone know if a 4 into 1 exhaust system for a 1981 GS1100 will fit on my GS750... I have contacted a couple of ebay sellers who have the 1981 1100 exhaust but they tell me there is nothing available for my 750 and that the exhaust for the 1100 will not fit but it looks the same to me... and the exhaust outlets on the head appear to be the same distance apart... an other thing I was thinking about is that the 1100 and the 750 have the same head... (maybe)...

Probably not exactly. If you're comparing heads, I'm guessing you're looking at a 2 valve 1100 head, then again I dont know if spacing / size between a four valve and two valve is different.
I'm not sure about exhaust interchangeability, but have read that 1100 headers will hang lower on a 750 due to the 1100s added height. You would likely need to fab a muffler hanging bracket as well.
Hopefully some with more knowledge will check in and get you sorted.

V&H and Delkevic make exhausts specifically for the '78 GS750. There are others....google it!

Thanks for your quick responses... I was looking at the Mac exhaust... don't want to spend $500.00 on an exhaust system for a $500.00 bike... Will keep looking though...

Good point, but these bikes have a way of sucking $$$ if you're not careful. A 30 year old bike needs a lot of little bits replaced..... and before you know it, $325 (ish) for a nice pipe doesn't seem out of order.

GS1000 + GS1100 + 16 valve GS750 AFTERMARKET exhaust will fit the first generation 750, but the mounts will be not likely in the right place, you will have to fabricate something, and the exhaust will hang close to an inch lower, which means with stock fork springs, you are highly likely to smash the bottom of the exhaust on a steep approach or speed bump eventually, and put some nice big dents in the bottoms of the head pipes. I know all of this from personal experience, my 77 750 came with a MAC Exhaust for a GS 1100E
You can get a Vance & Hines exhaust for fairly cheap and they sound awesome ( somewhere around $300 shipped to your door? Cheapest prices on eBay). The MAC Exhaust has a really nice header, I don't care for the muffler quite as much, mostly because the stock baffle is a chambered exhaust similar to OEM, but slightly louder. If you want a quiet like, that would be the one to get! I like the aggressive throaty sound that expels some gnarly aggressive and impressive tones on acceleration...

If you are good with metal working, I have a GS750 Vance & Hines with the pipes dented in on the bottom that needs the dents pulled out. I might consider selling it if you really like to make a lot of work for yourself and don't want to spend money on a new one. But shipping will cost me a fortune.

The Delkevic stainless steel pipes are incredible quality. I have one on my 750.

Marving makes a killer pipe also, but Italian, so import costs and waits are not quick or cheap. Predator and Motad I think are 2 others from Europe.

There are Jardine and Bassani NOS pipes on ebay but pricier than v&h or mac new

If you are ambitious at all and wanting to wrench on it, it won't be a $500 bike for a long if you keep making little improvements to it over time, and it will be a much better bike afterwards.

I believe Mac 203-0301 is the one you are looking for. I can't find any Vance & Hines on eBay for the usual price, only $499! I've seen them before plenty for around 275 or $295 shipped. Perhaps they raised their prices because their sales dropped drastically since delkevic introduced their superior stainless steel GS750 pipe?

$262 shipped to my door, but black muffler can black header. Some come with a chrome muffler can. And some all chrome. The more chrome, the more money. I believe that part number is just for the black one

By the way, you are looking for the one that says it fits GS750 and GS850 if you have a 77-79 GS750 (not the one listed for GS1100/1000/750).

Some of the sellers don't even list what models they fit, they only list the manufacturer's part numbers. That would mean you have to do a little bit more homework. That's best anyway, to ensure that you get the correct pipe.

Also, if you want the throaty aggressive sound, Mac sell a performance baffle that slips right into that muffler can
I think it's probably around $55 or so

AND... Here is the deluxe model...
DELKEVIC EXHAUST. Stainless Delkevic headers, classic style stainless straight slip-on muffler, and bracket. Suzuki GS750 (1977-1979). Delkevic motorcycle exhausts are handcrafted from the highest quality materials to improve your riding experience at an unbeatable price.

$335 shipped, all stainless. The megaphone version has a more aggressive tone, but the muffler section is much more bulky, and it is about $359 shipped. Both links have an install picture so you can see what they look like. Same style of baffle, but the megaphone is much larger inside diameter. Despite being a smaller baffle opening, the straight upswept road race style pipe is still pretty aggressive sounding.
DELKEVIC EXHAUST. Delkevic down pipes, Classic style silencer with a removable baffle, clamp, gaskets, brackets, stand stop rubber, spring hooks, nyloc nuts, washers, and cap screws. Suzuki GS750 (1977-1979).

Not to mention that the Mac isn't worth $500 and the Delkevic is a better exhaust and is cheaper.
