1983 GS650G Fuel Tank Question

So, I just picked up a 1983 GS650G Fuel Tank for my 1981 GS650G BUT it seems that the 1983 model has a different design. There is an opening on the bottom of the tank. Any idea what goes there and where to find it on a parts fiche? Thank you!!!

Ok, I see that it's a fuel level gauge. What can I put in it's place? Any creative ideas?

That's where the fuel sender is. A lot of times sellers will sell this separately from the tank.

Make a block off plate. Take some paper and a pencil and rub a tracing of the bolt holes. Next get cover plate for a 4X4 electrical box and cut out a round plate. Use the tracing to center punch the hole locations on the pate and drill it out. Use some neoprene rubber and make a round puck and poke out the bolt holes in that. Bolt it over the hole. Can smear a little RTV on the gasket I you want to.

NOTE...VERY IMPORTANT !!! Note the flange for the bolts on the tank is very close to the side of the tank itself. Using too long of a bolt will puncture the tank.

OR someone may have an old broke unit laying around. Just cut the arm and wire area off and use the base plate as your block off.
