    Petcock issue.

I have been working on a 1981 GS450L and after rebuilding the carbs the thing was still acting like it wasn't getting proper fuel/air flow.

Come to find out my new problem with the petcock.

Now, the petcock that was installed on it last looks like a universal petcock; in fact, the previous mechanic hammered a dent in one of the tubes in order to get the tank to sit on the bike with this aftermarket thing on it.

I was wondering whether it was worth it to order a new $89 petcock that is FOR this make/model or if another universal that costs like $20 be worth the savings.

After disassembling and reassembling the petcock, the bike seemed to almost work but still randomly craps out; I assume to lack of fuel flow due to the PRI position not working properly.

    Note:

I rebuilt the carbs because once I took them apart to inspect them I realized that most of the parts didn't match each other; it was a mess.

Buy a new OEM petcock, might have a carb problem as well. Not sure how you can use unmatching parts in a carb?

Stuff I've done to my bike:dancing: 1100E front end with new Sonic springs, 1100E swing arm conversion with new Progressive shocks installed, 530 sprockets/chain conversion, new SS brake lines, new brake pads. New SS fasteners through out. Rebuilt carbs, new EBC clutch springs and horn installed. New paint. Motor runs strong.

New OEM petcock. Tried a couple different knockoffs and they all leak. Rebuild kits leak. New OEM unit is perfect.

        Thanks guys.

I don't know how he used mismatching parts either.

The thing ran but would rev up to full-throttle as soon as you started it; told me it needed a little carb work.

Replaced almost all the parts in it as a consequence.

Pingel is an option as well, mine cured mystery jetting problems, just saying....

I tried looking for "Pingel FTW", seems that nobody sells one.
