Anyone know if there is another sender unit that will fit the GS850?

If your definiton of "another sender" includes aftermarket, probably not.

At least you can expand your search to include these:

The part number is 34810-45300. There is also a 34810-45200, which has been superceded by the 45300.

The 45200 sending unit was listed for the '79 550L and the '79 750L.
