New carb
I need new carbs for my 78 gs1000 I was wondering if I can upgrade while I'm at it to maybe a diagram later type bigger size or it's best to go back to the same vm26s?Tags: None

If you want to go to the later BS carbs, you will need to change to a 1980 cylinder head, as well. The carbs are larger, which requires larger intake boots, which requires the head that was designed for them.
Why do you feel you need new carbs?

Well the bike was in a electrical fire...and one carb choke tube was broken and the other got warped where the slide goes up and down and it gets stuck

Yep, you are going to need some parts and/or new bodies. Contact member Chuck Hahn. He rebuilds carbs and might have the parts you need.

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

You can run BS34 carbs on your head. I do, should say I did, I ran BST34SS off a GSXR1100 till I put my VM33's back on. You use KZ1000 manifolds, you just have to open up the attaching holes a few mm.
I should add that I ran pods with mine. Not sure if the factory air box will work.Last edited by Fjbj40; 04-10-2018, 07:56 PM.1978 Gs1085 compliments of Popy Yosh, Bandit 1200 wheels and front end, VM33 Smoothbores, Yosh exhaust, braced frame, ported polished head
1983 Gs1100ESD, rebuild finished! Body paintwork happening winter 2017:D
I would rather trust my bike to a technician that reads the service manual than some backyardigan that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix things.
