    1980 gs850g bogging at 4K

Hi my dad has an 80’ 850g and it has started to bog down when it hit around 4-5k RPM. At first it only bogged down when he was driving but now it’s doing it when in neutral as well. We went through all 4 carburetors and cleaned them out and all the pilots were clear and everything. It’s like the bike isn’t getting enough gas. Could it be something else in the carbs is sticking or not sliding? Thanks

Mid range bogging can be due to needle problems. Have you checked the diaphragms?

I think we’ve narrowed it down to being a carb issue. The air box and filter are both good and we checked to make sure it wasn’t the peacock by putting the tank from my bike on and it was still bogging. Going to have to go through the carbs very thoroughly and find out what’s going on there. Thanks for all the input.

Have you verified that the advance mechanism isn't stuck on retard? It advances at about 4,000......

The G models that year were thankfully spared that abomination.

Stock intake and exhaust? Stock jetting? What throttle setting(s) is it happening at? The RPM usually isn't as important as the throttle setting as that determines which carb circuit you are running on. Will it pull through the bog if you give it full throttle? What happens if you hit the choke while it is bogging?
