I purchased a 1978 GS400 for my girlfriends first bike and we have been having some troubles with it. The previous owner was trying to make some sort of cafe style bike and decided to install pod filters. We re-cleaned the carbs as it was having an issue with idling (start the bike and the idle would rev waaaay up) and that is now fixed.
So the carbs are cleaned, the right side float was pretty rough condition, i have a new one ordered in hopes to fix the issue. The main issue we are having is that when the bike is running, it now idles, but very poorly. And after about 1 minute of idling the left exhaust manifold is very hot to the touch, but the right exhaust manifold is almost cold. Now it doesnt sound like its only running on one cylinder, but it may be. (Possibly firing randomly?)
I know its getting spark on both cylinders, but could the damaged float have something to do with this. It looks like its been adjusted, it definitely has a pin hole in it because I hear a small amount of fuel inside. For reference the carbs are running all factory parts, and adjusted factory settings, I checked the numbers on the jets and needles, but the previous owner did install pod air filters.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
