1979 GS1000E Reserve capacity?

I think my 79 1000E holds 5.2 gallons, anyone know how much of that is reserve?

Don't know the <exact> amount, but it's generally near a gallon.

That can change if the petcock has been changed. Z1 sells a couple different petcocks for our bikes with the notation that one has a larger REServe than the other one.

I have over a gallon in reserve, about 1 1/4 or so.

I've gone about 60 miles on reserve (in gas saving mode)

well for the fun of it just put enough gas in to be over the reserve line, Then drive till it needs to switch to reserve and in a feat reminiscent of Kramers great running on empty shtick in Seinfield run her dry. A one gallon gas can strapped to the seam would be helpful but detract from the grandness of the gesture.

In litres it's a 19 litre tank with 4 as reserve.

Never watched Seinfeld, so have no idea what happened, but it is possible to do it in a much more practical manner.

Run a hose from the petcock into a suitable container. With the petcock in the RUN position, apply vacuum to the vacuum port, let the fuel drain. When it stops, drain your fuel container or switch to another container that will hold at least 1 1/2 gallons (6 litres). Move the petcock lever to REServe and apply vacuum or just move it to PRIme and drain the rest of the tank. When it's empty, you will still be at home and can conveniently measure the REServe capacity of your tank.

By the way, when the fuel stops flowing the first time, note the position of your fuel gauge. If you have a red portion on the scale, it is handy to calibrate the gauge to have the needle at the transition from the white zone to red zone at the time you need to move the lever to REServe.

Kinda redundant to have a fuel gauge and a reserve switch!

I bought the K&L filter with small reserve from Z1. The reserve is tiny. I got maybe 20 miles on it before I ran out of fuel.
