    1979 GS550 Carbs

Hi there. I'm in the process of resurrecting a 79 GS550. I've got my local garage to help me out with the carbs, as it had pods on it and wasn't running very well (sooty plugs). We are attempting to take it back to stock (airbox/original jet sizes etc). The guy at the garage reckons the carbs are too big. They are probably a VM26 (internal diameter measues 25.5mm and they have 47020 stamped on them). He reckons the GS550 came with a VM24. Can anyone confirm?

The GS550 came with VM22 carbs. I believe they should measure 22mm ID at the outlet.

Due to differences in cylinder spacing, the VM26 carbs from the 750 and 1000 won't bolt onto the 550 carbs holders.

Where is throttle linkage on the carbs? The VM22 has it between cyls 3 and 4 while the VM26 has it between 2 and 3.

The throttle linkage is between 3 and 4 and the 47020 stamped on the carb rack seems to refer to GS550 carbs. But the internal diameter at the outlet is about 3mm to big. Odd...
