Won't idle
Had my carbs cleaned and bike started up no problem but won't tick over need choke on or rev the throttle and sounds good,I've heard the the fella that did the carbs is a clown, but he says being them or whole bike and he'll sort it out. What could the problem be so if he starts bull crapping me I know what to say.I've adjusted the idle screw at bottom of carbs no difference.Last edited by angus; 04-08-2019, 04:55 PM.1983 GS 650 gl

Check your pilot screw settings. After a rebuild, I start with them three full turns out. When the bike warms up, I will turn them in until idle speed drops, then back them out 1/8 to 1/4 turn.
NOTE: Set each carb individually. Seems a bit silly, but each one can be different. Don't just see where the first one is set, then set them all the same.

Yes, the pilot screws (also known as mixture screws) are the ones that were blocked off with a cap at the factory.
They were set to meet EPA standards, so were rather lean. Over the years, as the parts in the carbs have gotten a bit dirtier and the gas has gotten a bit less potent, there is a greater need for a bit more fuel in the fire, so those screws need to be turned OUT. The stock settings might have been in the 1 3/4 to 2 turn range, most of us have found that 2 to 2 1/4 works better. Since it is easier to get a bike to run with a richer mixture than a lean mix, we start with the screws out 3 full turns, then turn them in to lean the mix as necessary.
