carburetor re-ganging: spacing and "snugness" of connectors

another question that will hopefully be answerable just by people with more familiarity and experience:

I'm finishing my carbs, they're each closed up at this point. Getting ready to reconnect them to one another, and then reattach them all to the gang plates.

I'm confused/surprised by the shortness of the connecting items between each carburetor.
To clarify, the "Fuel Pipe" (metal tube with 4 o-rings, item 1 in image), if inserted completely into Carb Four, will be too short to appropriately insert into Carb Three.

Are they meant to be partially inserted, so they're centered between each carb?

The vent/fuel Tee fittings will be properly spaced between the carbs after you attach the carbs to the gang plate. Be sure to use a touch of lubricant on the O-rings during assembly. You might want to check the rebuild tutorial linked in my signature if you haven't already since it contains lots of photos of such details.

Edit: be aware that you need to fit together the throttle linkage by lifting up the spring on the sync dealliebob or you can't get the carbs to nest together fully.

I <think> I know what you mean by that, and it depends on which manual you are using.

The GSX1100E manual from Suzuki does show a picture, but it's hard to see what is what on the black carbs. The words that go along with that are "Position throttle control valve lever "1" correctly."
