Pet is going bad, is it "safe" to operate the bike with the pet on "PRIME"?

If it has been sitting dry for a while the O-ring on the diaphragm can stick or not fully open with vacuum. I dissembled my petcock because I wasn't getting any fuel after being parked for a long time. that tiny little O-ring was stuck. freed it up and applied a little dielectric grease and it started working properly with vacuum, started right up.

I'm guessing this might be the trouble, if not the o-ring then something else in the pet being stuck. It did sit for a couple weeks without being ridden, and was dry for most of the winter. I haven't had time to disassemble the pet in between working and moving houses, hopefully later this week I can open it up and see what's gone wrong. Thanks for the tip.
