    I cant start my bike

After months of work and money, ive finally completed my 1981 Suzuki gs550t cafe racer rebuild. Ive come to the point of starting it but I cant seem to get it working. Ive got spark and I cleaned my carburetors as best as I could, I also installed new o-rings. The only problem is my air mixture screws are all stripped in the carbs, i cleaned them the best i could but i cannot get them out. Do you all think these might be the problem ? Maybe a clogged passage that doesnt allow for fuel into the cylinders ? Any tips on getting them out ?

The proper carb cleaning method is to strip the carbs bare and soak the carb body and jets/screws in carb dip. If you can't remove the stripped mixture screws, it's very difficult to think your carbs are clean. In addition, mixture screws are used to adjust the idle fuel/air mixture. If you can't adjust the mixture, that could certainly lead to a no start condition.

If you don't get the mixture screws out, the idle circuit passages won't be clean and you'll have poor low speed running once the bike starts. Did you clean the hole at the bottom of each fuel bowl? poke ,blow, etc. this is the feed device to the "choke" plunger - if plugged, no fuel makes the trip to the plunger

Did it run before you started the project? It's the biggest mistake I think I see. People getting a bike to modify, but don't take the time to get it running first before letting their imagination go free. Depending on how bad the screws are buggered up it may be easier to get another set. I think there was a tutorial about removing stuck screws. They are made of brass so they are very soft. I've cut away the housing of the body to get a better access to the screw with a Dremel tool and a cutoff disc. Add a lot of PB Blaster, heat and you may get lucky. That was for a single carb though. Doing all four and not being careful may end up with a set of useless carbs, but then they may already be in that condition. To see if it will at least run, you can spay some carb cleaner into the air box to get it to fire up. If it still doesn't at least try to start, there may be something else going wrong. Have you done a compression test?

Let's see some pics of the bike.

Page 40 and 41 describe how to remove the pilot screws on Honda carbs. They actually stick out of the carb body and the ones we have are down in a hole. The basic principle may still work if you have the drill bits and a #2 EZ-Out. http://www.cb750c.com/publicdocs/Sea...anual_revG.pdf

I'm no fan of small ez-outs...they are very brittle. I've had better luck with decent lefthand drill bits.
Next time you attack this issue, start with a modified screwdriver that can reach down tunnel and FULLY engage the slot on mixture screw. Here's what I use

Soak your stuck air mixture screws with PB Blaster or your favorite penetrating oil. Get a decent Left hand threaded drill bit, and spiral screw extractor with a hand tap. Do not try to use the spiral screw extractor in a drill, its not going to work. Half the time just using the left handed drill bit will get it out, the other half of the time the spiral screw extractor makes quick work of it. Good luck, you need to get those striped screws out and replaced before you can begin to diag why your bike isn't running.

Thanks for all the replies, I found some used carbs on ebay for 150, but I think im gonna try to heat up and maybe use the left hand drill bits before I fork over the money.6C6F20A8-09C1-4E5D-AFDF-52589781FD04.jpgP.s I hadn't installed my new clutch cable in the pic, that why the cover & shifter are off.
