    1980 gs1000l

    Hello,

I have a 1980 Suzuki GS1000L, my first Suzuki. It's missing the carburetor? I found some carbs on eBay - 1978, 1979 and 1981 both gs1000l. Would either of these work?

    thanks

Beware the change-over dates from slide carbs to CV ones on the GS1000.
For example, on the GS850, the 79 is slide, the 80 is CV, might be the same years the change took place on the 1000.
Different boots front and back that the carbs fit into, but the most gotcha change is the cylinder head - the head itself swaps over complete, but the carbs from the earlier bikes won't fit yours.

I am thinking that the only 1000L was actually a 1000GL.

Is your bike shaft-driven or chain?

Either way, it should have BS34SS carbs. They are a CV-type carb, that is, "Constant Velocity". Too many people use the "CV" term as if it is a model name, but it's a construction (and operation) type that is used by many different manufacturers.

From the list of what you found on eBay, only the '81 carbs would work, but it would be nice to see a link to that auction to verify that the carbs are, indeed, the proper ones.

Even when you get the carbs, be aware that you might have to rebuild them. It's not that hard of a procedure, but it does require a lot of attention to detail, as well as some chemicals. If you don't feel up to the task, there are a few of us here that offer that service for you.

Once again, listings on eBay that have no idea what the item is.
Never buy there unless you know it's the correct item, never trust a seller
