Bike not completely starting

    Throttle cable at handlebar? turn the handle bar adjuster all the way in. Next, goto carbs and you'll find a big knob. Turn it looser so that actual throttle arm rests on it's tab ..the throttle is now entirely closed to it's lowest setting. DO NOT touch the screw+locknut seen in the picture on top. That's a synching screw. You should alredy have bench synched them when you took the carbs out, i hope...

    Now, it should be fairly obvious where the end goes in your twist grip...the cable will have some visible slack when the throttle is fully closed. Adjust the big knob with the bike when warmed to a low idle and then at the grip to fine tune the slack out you just added to the cable by turning the big knob. When you ride the bike around truly warmed you'll likely do this again, aiming for 1000 to 1200 rpm at idle....

      checked cable, all is good now when i twist throttle from nothing the cable itself doesnt move in the beginning, but there is for sure slack in the cable when rested, i think the rack just doesnt sit fully at a 90 degree angle and is always a bit up, no i havent messed with those screws at all i know better than to mess with something i dont know about.

      will be doing all that when it starts, that was the idea, but things dont always go as planned ofcourse.

        As to the air filter, you mentioned cleaning and oiling it. The manual for my bike says to use a capful of oil after cleaning. Perhaps you used a bit too much?

          yeah i just dumped it on there but i did rag it out and get alot of excess out, may re rag it tomorrow getting anymore, but as for tonight im done messing with it just gotta be simple reasons it didnt start.

            Too much oil is going to plug up all the mini holes in that foam. I'd be inclined to clean it up and follow the instructions to get it right. That and taping up that hole and I'll bet you have a better chance of it running.

              Bike not completely starting. Girlfriend not completely pregnant.

              1982 GS1100E V&H "SS" exhaust, APE pods, 1150 oil cooler, 140 speedo, 99.3 rear wheel HP, black engine, '83 red

              2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.

                  okay so, bike started up, gotta askwhat sprayed on my exhaust, and does this mean i have a vacuum leak? i think it was gas

                    is anyone available to video chat or anything? it also smoked from the exhaust when that happened, white smoke.

                      solved.... got the leak stopped, and found out i messed up 2 exhaust gaskets, gonna replace all 4 anyways i guess just to be sure.


                      this is actually good, because while i wait ill do my front brake and bike will be ready to ride when i start it up again.
