howmuch does a carb sync run for
anyone have an idea of what the price should be for a carb sync? i did order the carbtune but it still hasnt been sent at all, and i could use the money, and time itll take to get here. i know i just need to call for a quote but also i dont wanna overpay, when i rode bmx i called 2 shops to lace a rear wheel. one said $60, and one said $30, i went to the one that charged $30 and they did just fine, way better than i did i kept warping the rim at the last few spoke patterns.

I’m confused. Why are you asking how much does it run for if you say you ordered one? Of course it takes time to arrive as it is coming from England, not your OReillys on the corner.
Old bikes cost money to maintain; if you are having budget issues, maybe it should sit and wait until you can afford to take care of it.
For example, my daughter's bike has a very troubling problem where it cuts out when coming up to a stop light. All carbs have been cleaned, synch'd and vacuum lines checked but we still cannot figure out the issue. One thought we have is to replace the intake boots again but that does cost money my daughter doesn't have. Instead of me giving her the money, I have chosen to ensure my bikes are operational. Consequently, she has decided to wait until she can afford it which hopefully will be later this summer after she starts her new job. Budgeting and planning for your expenses far enough out in advance will give you the best idea of when to buy something and when to just sit and be patient. It's hard I agree but it will be worth it in the endLast edited by cowboyup3371; 04-27-2020, 07:52 AM.Cowboy Up or Quit. - Run Free Lou and Rest in Peace

If you have the tool on the way, why not do it yourself? There's plenty of YouTube videos on how to do it and believe me, it's not at all difficult once you understand the basics.1980 Yamaha XS1100G (Current bike)

yes, it is partially a budget thing, but the reason i was seeing about this is that a carb sync is really the last thing i need other than getting the front brake put back together, and it says itll take about 5 weeks, so i was just like crap i gotta wait 5 weeks, one thing i will say is i shouldve knew with an older machine comes plenty of fixes and some hard to find parts and alot of time.Ian

Carb sync is important for best performance but if the bike is running "good enough" you shouldn't let that keep you from riding it. There's plenty of folks that'll try to convince you otherwise from trying but a home made sync tool can be made for peanuts, mine is two plastic pop bottles and some tubing. Get that brake done and give your project a spin, being a first timer you're probably going to discover things you overlooked anyhow that will require more attention.1980 Yamaha XS1100G (Current bike)

Did you rebuild the carbs or were they done professionally?
If you did them, I can't say how the bench sync was done.
If you had them done professionally, there is also no guarantee.
If one of the members here did them, I'd say they are pretty close, so run them until you get your Carbtune. If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

If it’s climbing to 2000 rpm without the choke then you have the idle set too high or the throttle cable isn’t adjusted properly. You have forum members in your neck of the woods (Earlfor and GSRick to name two); have you reached out to them for help?Cowboy Up or Quit. - Run Free Lou and Rest in Peace

Put pennies (or something) under the slides & adjust them till they are all the same. Wind the idle stop back until you just see a crack of light under slides.
Adjust idle stop to 1100-1500 after it's warm...
