    GS850G VM carb pilot fuel screw location

    Hello. I have a 1979 GS850G, VM carbs.
    I want to confirm that this is in fact where my pilot fuel screw is. Two pics for clarity. I tried to get a better pic but it's pretty tight in there.

    If I'm right and that is in the pilot fuel screw, what type/size Flathead screwdriver are you using to turn that screw during an adjustment?
    There's only about 2.5" of space between that screw and the starter cover. Is there a special type of screw driver I should be aware of, or just a
    really small one? Maybe a 90 degree screwdriver?

    That location is correct.

    Most people use a 90 degree screwdriver when the carbs are on the bike

    You need to create a proper screwdriver if you can't find one that fits. Brass does not like sloppiness

    You should have set that when you took the carbs out for cleaning. Set them at 3/4- 7/8 turn from carefully bottomed

    You make corrections with the air screw
    1978 GS 1000 (since new)

        Rusty, a quick look at this VM carb cleaning tutorial should help with the location and function of the different jets.

          Thank you much Steve. I actually have that same PDF already open on my computer. Just wanted to be sure that what I was seeing was what I was seein...so to speak.

            That damned pilot fuel screw is almost ferkin impossible to adjust with any accuracy even with the proper tool. At least I'm incapable.

              I have a piece of rubber pipe (i think it was a piece of air line from my local garage) with a slot screwdriver bit wedged into the end. The pipe gives adequate grip and it can be cut as long or short as needed. Used it once or twice, re-set the screws correctly with the carbs off the bike and haven't touched them / it since.
