gs 550T carb rebuild

hi, I have a gs 550t that was built in 12/80. I'm assuming its classified as an 81 though. I was rebuilding the carbs and I want to replace the float valve needles and 1 of the mixture screws. I'm having a hard time finding a rebuild kit for them but kits for the 650 are easy to find. Could I buy the one for the 650 and use those parts in my 550? Or are they totally different carb setups? Thank you.

Float needles are available from aftermarket companies like K&L but they suck. You would be better off buying real deal Mikuni float valve seats w/needles.

You don’t need to buy a full carb rebuild kit - just get the o-rings from cycleorings.com and gaskets from your local parts house. Very closely and religiously follow Nessism’s carb tutorial that he just mentioned

Thanks, ill do that. But two of my float valve needles are bad and one of my mixture screws is damaged. Will the ones from a 650 fit?

Yes, they will fit, but if you get them in a "carb rebuild kit" instead of getting genuine Mikuni parts, all bets are OFF regarding quality and subsequent tech support.
